Amtrak Derailment in East River Tunnel expected to impact LIRR service through Wednesday, May 11
LIRR Plans Reduced PM Peak Service Today
As a result of Sunday's Amtrak train derailment blocking one of the East River tunnels and the work required in clearing the equipment, assessing and repairing track and signal damage, the LIRR is expecting significant adjustments to the LIRR's AM and PM peak service through Wednesday, May 11. The LIRR will run a reduced PM rush hour service today, Monday, May 9th.
Approximately 20 eastbound trains from Penn Station will be canceled and combined with other trains. Westbound LIRR service will terminate at Jamaica, and will terminate at Woodside on the Port Washington Branch starting approximately 4:30 PM. NYC Transit will honoring LIRR tickets on the E train to New York at Jamaica and at Woodside on the No. 7 line.
All Far Rockaway trains will depart from Atlantic Terminal. The three Far Rockaway trains that normally leave from Penn Station the 4:42, 5:32 and 6:02 PM will instead depart from Atlantic Terminal.
Customers are urged to allow for extra travel time and should expect scattered 10 to 20 minute delays.
