ABC checks into 'Combat Hospital'

By STUART LEVINE

ABC has picked up medical reality series "Combat Hospital" for a 13-episode run this summer. Show, a co-production between Canada's Sienna Films and the U.K.'s Artists Studio, will also air on Canuck net Shaw. Both the Alphabet and Shaw reaped good fortune on "Rookie Blue," which proved to be a surprise hit last year.

Dan Petrie Jr. is showrunner and exec producer of the skein that examines the doctors and nurses who toil at an airfield hospital in Afghanistan. Jennifer Kawaja, Julia Sereny, Gub Neal, Justin Thompson-Glover and Patrick Irwin also exec produce.
"The appeal of 'Combat Hospital' will cut across all demographics and many nationalities," said Barbara Williams, senior VP of content at Shaw Media. "It'll provide the flip side to an international conflict that comes into our homes every day."
Carrie Stein at 3 Arts Entertainment and Simon Vaughan at Lookout Point are heading up international sales.
